Dhananjay has been paintings for last 25th year. He was born in 1964, in the terracotta town of Bishnupur, near Kolkata (the District of Jamini Roy & Ramkinkar Baij, W. Bengal). Having inherited an artistic tradition, he started his art life at the tender age of eight. Working with Jamini Roy's Kalighat pot paintings on terracotta horses, elephants etc, he created human figures, animal figures in the style of pot paintings. Once he completed schooling, he decided on a career in art and did a one-year Certificate Course at La-Martiniere SEOMP Society in Commercial Art, Exhibition Display & Interior Decoration. Simultaneously, he also pursued his graduation studies from Calcutta University. He started his art career in the year 1984 with the aim to become a complete Indian Contemporary Artist. He completed his art education from Rabindra Bharti University (Indian Collage of Arts & Draftsmanship) Calcutta in 1988. He participated in more than 85 shows ( Solo & Group) in India & Abroad.

The Green God : The predominant green colour on this planet is the colour of life, resurrection and youth, the balance between the warm and the cold colours symbolize harmony and sympathy. God pervades every cell and atom of the universe with green and spreads his divine effulgent aura everywhere. In my paintings I imagine the divine inside every green form, be it a plant, a tree trunk or even a leaf. In the dense forests, you can actually see the shape of nature forming faces in the dark. The face in my paintings is also carved out of a leaf with leaf motifs forming the eyes and lips and are designed to inculcate faith in nature. Just as we have faith in god, we should have faith in greenery and nature also, because nature itself is a God who gives us every thing that we need in our life.. Some spiritual miracle images of God, embossed on the trees..inspired me to make the Green God paintings series...
