Giclee Art Print

Question Is a giclee print, art print or stretched canvas print better?
There is a painting I have always loved, but I don't want to get a basic $10 poster. I want something that looks decent but won't cost me an arm and a leg. What is the differences (good and bad) between a giclee print, art print, and stretched canvas print?

Best Answer I think it is best to do a Giclee. Most of the expense is in the scan which is about 50.00. If you can take a good picture yourself of your art you can take a CD with your digital picture into the digital printer and have them print it for you. Then you can stretch your canvas yourself. I have a 16 x16 painting and the giclee was ninety dollars which included the scan (a one time fee) and stretching the canvas. When I took in my digital picture and stretched the canvas myself the exact same size cost $12.00. You can always paint over your giclee to enhance it and then seal it with varnish.

Question fine art Giclee or fine art print?
I am planning to purchase an impressionist art picture for my living room and I do not which is better a giclee or a fine art print, I know that giclee is a bit more expensive but I do not if it is worth it.

Best Answer You need to find out a bit more about these prints. Lithograph prints can be Limited Edition (only a certain number of prints are made) or Open Edition (unlimited number - unsigned, these are usually referred to as Fine Art Prints). A signed limited edition in the lower numbers (under 1,000) is far more valuable than an open edition - it's usually printed with better colour balance & on better paper. Giclee prints are generally made with light-fast inks on acid-free paper. They are almost always Signed Limited Editions and usually in the low numbers. This print's market value is higher than either of the above, as it is considered to have a longer life (archival means 100 years in gallery conditions) and the quality of reproduction often rivals lithos. That said, hopefully, you'll buy the piece of art that you love - you'll have to live with it on your wall!

Question Where can I get Giclee fine print art done?
I just want to make copies of my original oil painting so I can sell the copies for some money. Also what places do it cheapest? Or does it need to be done through the Internet or mail?

Best Answer Giclee printing is just good ink and you can put it into a ink jet printer. It wont be the to the standard though if you got it done at a printers. I dont know that much about it. If you live in england in Bristol there is a printers called 'Hello Blue' who are very friendly and not snobby and you could ring and ask about it or check their website out. Sorry this is a pretty poor answer but i thought i would share the little i know :-D
