Giclee Print On Canvas

Question how do I Paint over a canvas print (giclee)?
I have a project where I am altering a few old paintings (last supper.. Ect) I have the pictures printed from a website on canvas and I wanted to know the medium of paint I would need to paint on the surface because I heard oil doesn't work? Please help this project is due in a week and if it's not possible I need to know so I can switch directions and no I do not have the prints yet to test paint on them

Best Answer personally I don't see why oils wouldn't work I think they would be fine to use but they may not dry in time for you oil paints take a while to dry. other then that acrylics should work also but I would use the more expensive acrylics not the little bottles that are a dollar at hobby lobby and michaels, just to be sure that the adhere to your surface. Personally I would use the oils if its okay to turn the assignment in not quite dry cuz I think they have a better range of shades and can be blended while painting a lot easier. Hope this helps!

Question I am ordering a giclee printed on canvas. It is going to be shipped in a tube. Is there any risk of cracking?


Best Answer Probably not. Just make sure not to store it in the tube. I have had canvas shipped that way.

Question What is a good size for a print to be displayed in an art show?
My husband and I are having a debate. He's a digital artist who's going to be displaying his art for the first time at an art show this summer. Because all of his art is digital, it can be printed at any size. We are on a limited budget to set up a good display for him. He wants to get some giclee prints made on canvas. He says he'd rather have 2 or 3 big (2ft x 3ft) pieces to hang as eye grabbers. I think he'd be better off with more (5 or 6) pieces at a smaller size (16in x 20 in) to show quantity of pieces available. He is also going to have smaller 11in x 17 in prints matted for sale. Which is better? Fewer large canvas prints, or more smaller canvas prints? My husband and I are having a debate. Question Does anybody know anything about taking digital photos of paintings for Giclee prints?
I am looking into taking photos of my paintings so to reproduce them as Giclee prints on canvas. Is the best way to go to buy a top spec digital camera, learn how to do a bit of lighting and do it myself? Or should I just hunt down a photograher who specialises into taking photos of paintings? I need the Giclee prints to be top spec and the majority of them are going to be pretty big just as the originals, going from 20" x 20" upwards. Thanks for your help.

Best Answer Most Giclee printers here (Mexico) do the whole job.. You take your painting to them (no glass) and they do the rest..The cost is a factor of area..Right now about 10 cents (U.S.) a square inch.
