Question Art Reproduction,...Prints & Giclees advice and help?
I'm a new artist looking for a printing company to create reproductions of my artwork. I paint with acrylics on canvas and I have no idea what to expect, or what to look for, and what is best. Is getting prints done by digital photography good? Or is getting prints done by scanning the artworks good? Which one would be the better choice? Any advice would a great help. Thanks in advance.

Best Answer I would look for a local printer that has Giclee equipment and has been doing it for a long time- It takes experience to create quality Giclee prints. If it's possible , set up an appointment with the printer to see your work and together you will know if this is the process for you. Question Collecting giclees (iris prints)?
I've always wanted to collect art but have found it to be a bit cost prohibited. I just jumped into buying a few giclee prints as it is much more affordable. My question comes in terms of resale value. If one of the artists whom I purchase from hits it big would my print be worth anything? They are limited edition (many are of 100 or less printings) and signed by the artist. Thank you!

Best Answer If the quality of giclee is high you probably will not lose money. It is a gamble and they are not original paintings. Some artists enhance the prints with some stroked on paint. This is a segment in the art market that heavily relies on the sales pitch of galleries. Without their push these prints would only be very nice prints. Just how valuable is a nice print of a painting? In truth, it is only as valuable as people can convince you it is. Of course you have a limited number and they are signed so there is an inherent collectible aspect built in. An autograph on a napkin fetches money when it is the right person. Lithographs are different and are still more affordable than an original painting. Stoned lithographs, especially, are often reused after a run so the etched art is removed and it is impossible to ever reproduce more after the run has been sold off. An Iris print, again, is just a very nice color inkjet print.

Question What are the best printers for printing giclees? What are the costs of the printers & the ink cartridges?
I just want to buy the best printer for my money whether it be the more expensive printer with cheaper cartridge or the cheaper printer with the more expensive cartridge. Just a good printer that in the long run will last & wont cost a ton! Thanks!
