Best Answer Personally, I would take it to a professional print and framing shop. There's no way to know how it will unroll. A pro will know better what to do.

i have done a oil painting is it always better to varnish it ?

Best Answer no. Not at all. Over time, the painting will "yellow" (look dirty and older beyond its' years). Varnishing it does nothing other that give it a glossy look. It doesn't protect the painting at all in the long run, it draws more oil, faster out of the paint and cause it to crack, again well before its' time. My late father painted a ship once, he varnished it after it was frames (who knows why he waited), but anyway...I needed to change the original frame to go with new decor. And low and behold, the non-varnished edge is much brighter than the varnished part. This painting was done in 1976, so only 20 years and the damage was done.

Question How do I store a wet oil painting?
After applying an oil paint ground on my painting I let it dry in my studio for 2-3 weeks. The problem is that after this time some dust particles settle on the surface of the oil paint. I have tried putting the painting in a closet, doesn't work. I cannot put cloth on it since the oil gets smudged as it comes in contact with the material. How do I protect a wet oil painting from dust without disturbing the oil paint on it?

Best Answer Keep a wet painting in a "clean room" or a relatively dust-free room. Your studio may not be the cleanest place, but a nearby closet or bathroom might be. Lean your painting against a wall, face toward the wall with only a corner contacting the wall. You can also throw a sheet over it in this position. If you get drafts, weigh down the sheet with a rock or paperweight so it won't flap onto the wet surface of the painting.
