What Is A Giclee Print

Question Is there a huge difference between a giclee print and a regular photo print?
Looking to buy a picture to put up in my dorm room and they offer an 12x18 in giclee for 20 bucks, and a 9x12 photo print for only 7 bucks. Besides size obviously, what's the difference in the two?

Best Answer Giclee prints are usually made with fade-resistant archival ink to preserve the quality and integrity of the print for an extended period of time. They can be printed onto any type of paper or fabric, including archival paper and canvas. Regular photo prints are made with normal printer inks, hence the cost of production is less.

There is a painting I have always loved, but I don't want to get a basic $10 poster. I want something that looks decent but won't cost me an arm and a leg. What is the differences (good and bad) between a giclee print, art print, and stretched canvas print?

Best Answer I think it is best to do a Giclee. Most of the expense is in the scan which is about 50.00. If you can take a good picture yourself of your art you can take a CD with your digital picture into the digital printer and have them print it for you. Then you can stretch your canvas yourself. I have a 16 x16 painting and the giclee was ninety dollars which included the scan (a one time fee) and stretching the canvas. When I took in my digital picture and stretched the canvas myself the exact same size cost $12.00. You can always paint over your giclee to enhance it and then seal it with varnish.

Question How much would a GP (Giclee print) of Fritz Wagner be worth?
I have a what I believe to be GP print of fritz wagner. It is four men in a tavern. I don't have much more information on it, but it's in good condition, could it be worth anything?

Best Answer It is worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it. You would have to market it in the right circles (you can't sell a million dollar classic car in the local news paper). Best Answer It's just a fancy name for an inkjet print, to hide the reality that it is just an inkjet print! It's usually used by art gallery print vendors selling large size prints. The size of the prints means that they need big printers, and they need a way to distinguish their output from what everybody can do at home. In fairness, the inks are probably better than home printer inks, and the paper is certainly chosen carefully (but it need not be glossy, some very good results from dull papers)
