I want to have some of my artwork reproduced using Giclee Prints. I hear that this is the only way to do it because the special printer uses more ink colors and does not use a dot formation to print. How reliable is this information? Where can I go for quality prints?

Question Is there a huge difference between a giclee print and a regular photo print?
Looking to buy a picture to put up in my dorm room and they offer an 12x18 in giclee for 20 bucks, and a 9x12 photo print for only 7 bucks. Besides size obviously, what's the difference in the two?

Question How do I tell the difference between a Giclee and a Lithograph?
I have a Jim Gray print called "The Angler". I'm thinking of selling it and trying to find out what it is worth. I find that the pricing is somewhat different between giclee and a lithograph; and between canvas and paper. I'm certain that it's paper, but haven't a clue about the other

Best Answer You will need a magnifier to tell the difference, unless you have sharp eyes. The lithograph will have a pattern of dots, generally the four color process inks, cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. Most often they will have a regular pattern, but new processes are being developed to give them a more random pattern. The giclee, which is generated from an ink jet printer, will most likely have a random pattern of ink colors, but you should be able to detect some ink splatter which will NOT be present in a lithograph. Experienced eyes can tell you this information in a heartbeat. A local print shop operator can do this for you. Once you see the two types side by side with a magnifier, you will see what I mean.
